BeautifulSoup
On intention, uncertainty, and the limits of control
BeautifulSoup is a study of borrowed memories, generated by a system that was never taught to ask for permission. Constructed from scraped texts, digitized artworks, and the quiet labor of unseen hands, these compositions exist in the eerie space between authorship and automation — between creation and extraction.
Each piece is a monument to the invisible: the artists, writers, and photographers whose work has been harvested, reassembled, and dissolved into statistical noise. Aesthetic choices once made with intention are now replicated at scale. Their origins do not disappear — they become unattributable. In this process, beauty is not created; it is compiled.
Like the Python library from which it borrows its name, BeautifulSoup parses and repurposes — moving through the digital archive of human expression with the same indifference as any scraper: no permission sought, no source retained, only output. The result is something familiar and untethered.
