The Artist

Barry Sutton

I'm a New York–based artist working across photography, artificial intelligence and language systems. My practice examines how images—and the structures that produce them—become sites where cultural memory, computation and imagination converge.

My work has been exhibited internationally and collected by institutions including the Francisco Carolinum Museum in Linz. I'm Chair of the MPS Fashion Photography program at the School of Visual Arts, and the founder of Cera, an AI platform for creative development.

The Project

Arrival

Arrival is a photographic archive built over more than twenty years of looking at clouds—from streets, windows, coastlines, mountains and airplanes.

The images move between observation and abstraction, asking how photographs accumulate meaning across time, memory and changing technologies.

Initiatives

Cera

I'm also building Cera, an AI platform for artists designed around sustained critical conversation, project memory and the development of creative work.

Rather than generating work for the artist, Cera is designed to help artists think more deeply about the work they are already making.
